A Genetrix project is a broad data set related to an overall analysis. It is a single file containing array data, covariate information, and ancillary information such as data transformation steps, labels, and defined subsets for features and samples. A project can include any combination of array data platforms (for further information, see Features Overview).
You begin creating a project by importing the results of one or more experiments that address a common scientific problem. Each experiment may include multiple samples (with or without duplication). Covariate information can be imported into the project and can also be created based on analyses performed within Genetrix.
In practice, analyses may be confined to one or more subsets of data, however it is best to import all raw data that could possibly be needed for the analysis and create the subsets within Genetrix.
When you import data into Genetrix they are saved as a Genetrix project file, with extension .gtx. You subsequently access the data by opening this gtx file.
The advantage of a project file is that it “freezes” the data, ensuring that analyses carried out over a period of time are based on a consistent data set, and not influenced by possible changes to the underlying database. Having a single project file also greatly facilitates the interchange of data among collaborators.
You can have multiple projects open in Genetrix, but only one project is active at a time. When multiple projects are open, the project names are listed under projects in the Input/Output portion of the main icon window.
