64-bits refers to the CPU architecture and
memory that is now available on most computers sold to the public today. To take advantage of the
increased speed from this CPU architecture a user must also have a 64-bit operating system installed on their computer. Genetrix (x64) currently
runs on Windows
7/Vista/XP/Server 2008/Server 2003 x64. Mac users can also enjoy the speed afforded by 64-bit computing through the use of a
virtual machine.
Parallels and
VMWare Fusion for Mac are all good options. Mac users can also create a dual-boot system using
Bootcamp
and your choice of Windows x64 operating system.
Users who install Genetrix
(x64) versus the 32-bit counterpart will notice increased
speed with regards to reading in data, performing
calculations and displaying data points when creating plots.
Additional speed increases may be seen with a faster
processor, increased RAM and multiple cores/processors.
